Our Progression of Knowledge and Skills 

Our curriculum is thoughtfully structured to ensure a clear progression of skills and knowledge, allowing students to build upon their learning year after year. Each subject is designed with a strong foundation in core principles, enabling students to develop a deep understanding and master essential skills. As they progress, they encounter increasingly complex concepts and challenges, which help to reinforce previous learning and encourage the application of knowledge in new and varied contexts. This approach supports academic growth and the development of critical thinking, problem-solving, and resilience, ensuring that our students are well-prepared for future learning and life beyond the classroom.

Long Term Plan

Our school’s long-term plan is designed to provide a structured, progressive, and comprehensive curriculum that develops students' skills and knowledge across a range of subjects. The plan covers key stages, ensuring a seamless progression from foundational to more advanced concepts, encouraging deep understanding and application of knowledge. Each year, students build on prior learning in core areas like Science, Math, and English, while also exploring broader subjects, including History, Geography, Art, and Design Technology. This structured approach fosters academic growth, creativity, and critical thinking, preparing students to face future learning challenges confidently.

History

Our primary school history curriculum is designed to build a deepening understanding of the past, fostering critical thinking and analytical skills. Students progressively explore historical events, figures, and eras, developing the ability to sequence events, recognize cause and effect, and compare different time periods. By examining diverse perspectives and historical sources, they learn to interpret evidence and form balanced viewpoints, equipping them with a solid foundation in historical knowledge and inquiry skills that prepares them for future learning.

Religious Education

We follow the Kent Agreed Syllabus for RE, supported by the Kapow scheme, to enrich our curriculum. This combination ensures a balanced approach that promotes understanding, respect, and knowledge of various beliefs and practices, fostering inclusivity and critical thinking among our students.

Art

The art curriculum provides a structured progression of skills and knowledge, encouraging students to explore and express creativity through various media, techniques, and art forms. Starting from Early Years and advancing through each milestone, students develop essential artistic skills like drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed media. They also gain a deeper understanding of different artistic elements such as colour, form, and texture, as well as knowledge of cultural and historical contexts, fostering their ability to think and act as creative practitioners. This approach promotes both technical proficiency and individual expression.

Computing

The Computing Scheme of Work outlines a comprehensive, progressive curriculum that builds students' digital skills from Early Years through to Year 6. Each year introduces age-appropriate technology concepts and skills, supporting digital literacy, creativity, and computational thinking. This structure allows students to gradually advance their understanding and application of computing in various contexts, preparing them for the digital world.

Geography

Our geography curriculum for primary students ensures a steady progression of knowledge and skills, guiding them from local to global perspectives. Starting with map skills and understanding their immediate environment, students gradually explore more complex topics like physical landscapes, climate, and global cultures. As they advance, they learn to interpret data, analyse geographical patterns, and understand human-environment interactions. This approach nurtures curiosity about the world and equips students with critical thinking and practical skills to understand and engage with diverse places and environments.

Science

Our primary science curriculum is designed to build a strong foundation in scientific knowledge and practical skills. Students progress through hands-on investigations, learning to observe, hypothesize, and experiment with increasing independence. Key scientific skills such as questioning, planning, and analysing are developed alongside topics like biology, chemistry, and physics. This approach encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and a passion for understanding the world, preparing students to apply scientific concepts confidently in everyday life.

Physical Education

Our PE curriculum is structured to promote a progression of physical skills, coordination, and a lifelong appreciation for fitness and well-being. Starting with basic movement and balance, students develop core skills in agility, strength, and teamwork. As they advance, they engage in a variety of sports and activities, learning strategic thinking, resilience, and leadership. This progression not only enhances physical competence but also fosters confidence, cooperation, and a positive attitude toward health and fitness.

PSHE

It's Our primary school PSHE curriculum is designed to nurture students' social, emotional, and practical life skills, promoting holistic personal development. Through tailored lessons, students explore self-awareness, relationships, health, and well-being. Financial responsibility is also emphasised, introducing concepts of money management, saving, and informed spending. This curriculum encourages responsible decision-making and equips students with valuable skills for both their present and future lives..
